Hej,

I have been a keen (but rubbish) toothpick pilot since I have discovered the original TP3 from Bob Roogi (FPV Cycle KababFPV). I have never actually built a TP3, but have some frame kits. What I have been building in 2 different iterations is the BabyTooth frame, which is a unibody 3" toothpick. Love it!

I am a follower of Chris Rosser and his AOS line of quads. Love the scientific CAE approach and his videos explaining his methods. When I have discovered that he is working on a toothpick frame I have become rather excited.

After reconsidering my toothpick "fleet" (very big words for a 3 ship collection) I have decided to dismantle the heavier 1S Babytooth quad, use some of its parts and build an AOS T3 on a 3S setup. I have already a 2S toothpick which is mental in corners and straigth speed, so a 3S is almost mandatory to have then :-)

I have been contemplating between FPV Cycle 13mm motors and T-Motor F1303 motors. The decision has been easy in the end. Getting anything from FPV Cycle in Sweden is triggering an at least 45 USD shipping cost, plus the regular import taxes, which is not much fun. So even though that I love FPV Cycle products I have opted for the more commonly available T-Motor F1303 motors.

Watching some reviews from Dave_C have confirmed that they are rather nice and smooth, so not a big risk in the end...

For the camera I have been thinking about the Predator 5 and the RunCam Racer 3 Nano MCK Edition. I have both and love both, for being a bit of a rebel and going against the trend I have opted for the Racer in the end. Like the wide field of view and the overall picture. You really see everything. I have even made a comparison video for myself mainly to compare the FOV against a RunCam Phoenix 2 Nano, which I have had lying around. That has some amazingly pleasant image, but less FOV and the latency is almost 20x longer.

The Elephant in the Room is probably the canopy. You can see the monstrocity in the image section. There is some method behind the madness. It has taken 4 major reworks to arrive to this point, but I think that I am about to reach a stable design.

The idea with the canopy is that it should provide some protection for the camera, while being light and compatible with the general bolt layout of the AOS T3. Also as I have suffered from pretty bad RC link quality on the donor quad I wanted to move away from the frame, since antennas and close proximity of carbon is not a good combination.
While optimizing the RC link I could then think of moving the VTX antenna as far from the props as possible and providing even a turtle fin in form of the antenna masts. As a bonus I could even fix the low ESR capacitor on one of the masts, as you may notice the "bulge" on the right hand side mast.

The TuneRC Poly F405 board is a masterpiece from a build point-of-view. Large pads for soldering, really generous amount of UART's. I don't use blackbox yet, but love the idea of being able to use it when needed. The 20A ESC current capacity is probably an overkill for me, but if I should try turtle mode it could be helpful anyhow.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
