Introduction
This build consists of a brushed 3 inch drone. It uses a custom frame that is light and big enough for 3 inch propellers. The 3d printed canopy was made for the Caddx ant camera, but should work with other 14mm cameras. It is a 1s drone using 8523 motors that have more torque than 8520 motors.

Frame preparation
To begin with this build the frame needs to be prepared. As the battery is supposed to lay below the frame, two holes need to be countersunk to allow for countersunk bolts. This could be done with a countersunk drill bit, but as I don’t have one of those I just used a 5mm drill bit to do it. The final work should look like the image on the right.
After that all the frame hardware and rubber parts can be assembled. For that here is the list of parts needed:
Everything can be assembled to look like the picture on the right. The smaller 12mm screw goes in the back of the frame.
Electronics
The flight controller needs to be mounted to the frame along with the 3d printed part that holds the RX antenna and GNB27 connector. For that the RX antenna, GNB27 connector, vtx and camera wires need to be wired before mounting the flight controller. The GNB27 is held in place like the picture on the right.
After those parts are wired together they can be mounted to the frame. The 3d part that holds the RX antenna and GNB27 connector will be mounted as shown on the picture on the right.
This part needs to be mounted along with the electronics and for that the next list of parts is needed:
The picture on the right shows how these parts should go together.
Motors, canopy and propellers
Finally, the VTX can be mounted to the frame with 2x M2 nylon lock nuts as is shown in the next picture on the right.
The motors can be soldered after being mounted in place, for that it is needed the next list of parts:
Afterwards the motors can be soldered to the flight controller. The motors should be mounted to the frame as is shown in the next pictures.
Finally, the camera can be mounted to the canopy using 2x M2x4mm screws and 2x M2 washers. The canopy is mounted using the last 3x M2 nylon lock nuts. The last thing to do is to add the propellers.

What do you like most about brushed motors? My first quad was brushed and after a year of abuse it lost a lot of power. I use it now to train my beginner friends
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

very good and precise job... i like brushed build have some setup but not like this l prefer 2S 1020 51000rpm motors :)
I am currently building other drone with 2s 1020 motors.
Hi! How is your 2S 1020 project?😉 Did you find 2S-FC with OSD? Me did not find it.... only without OSD! But I had 2different 2S 1020 motors one is low rpm 32000 but longes lifetime.. other is more powerful and fast rpm is 52000....
My 2s 1020 project is not complete yet. I am using the JHEMCU f4 noxe v3 FC, this doesn't have an ESC, I am using a separated ESC. This flight controller has OSD. I am not having too muck luck with the 1020 motors, I have burnt a lot of these motors testing the drone, I need to try bigger motors. You can check my instagram for updates on my drones : https://www.instagram.com/brushed_rotors/
I checked your insta! Good job and toy/game! :) I do not have insta only my GF... did comment there :)
Yeah big problem is not to much prop exist for 1,2mm shaft motor! For me the best setup is 2S1020 motors! I have 3 same setup only cam is different! They are 3 years old and flying more than 1000 minutes each! Longest lifetime of motors can be 600-800minutes for 32000rpm.... This time I am testing fast version of motor 52000rpm not result yet! Expectation is? Half of slow motor.... maybe 300-400miutes! I am using 300-380mah 2S battery 4-5minutes fly time (32000rpm) is more than enough! For 52000rpm is minus 1 minutes fly time! 3-4 minutes OK! There is one type of prop RED with 1,2mm hole and 0,98 gramm weight! Look! https://rotorbuilds.com/build/27253
Thank you.
Yeah this motors are great, but i want to use a 3.5inch propeller and this motors are small for this size of propeller. For a 3 inch propeller the 1020 2s motors are great, but i am still going to try the 1020 2s motor, i will be trying this motor : https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DCoisUD .
This motor has cooling holes, the motors might remain cooler than the regular motors.
I have a 66mm propeller with 1.2mm hole, but this propeller is too small for my quad.
I think NOW I have like that motors 52000rpm or similar.... I know 'D' shape shaft motor is 52000rpm without cooling holes! I had them but lifetimes is not to long! You have to try 32000rpm motors no cooling hole but has low rpm and not very hot possible to have long lifetime! May be better for 3,5 inch with strong prop?
About propellers only one type 3inch (76mm) has 1,2mm shaft hole pitch? is less than 1 maybe 0,5-0,7!

This propeller is not very strong but for 52000rpm better than gemfan less hot longest lifetime!
Gemfan is more stronger and better quality fit for 32000rpm pitch is 0.9! Possible to use it for 52000rpm but lifetime of motor is riscky? Other segment for calculation is the weight! heavy drone plus big heavy battery, low/high rpm motor, weight of prop, prop's pitch 0,5-1.....??? Difficult to find the best combination let's go to find it!! :)
Do you have a link for the 32000rpm motors ?
I have those propellers but with 1mm shaft. I prefer the Gemfan 75mm, they are stronger.
My drone with 1020 motors is heavy, about 112g without battery, i think i need to try bigger motors like this one : https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC44WfB
This might be good for the bi-blade 3.5inch propellers.
Yes you can try them it is a good toys :)
my feeling 17000rpm is very low! Special to use it direct to propeller without gear!
2S1020 are basicaly 32000rpm if more than basic? they menthion that 40000 or 52000rpm etc..

not possible to buy it anymore from this seller but have to look it from other seller!
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001541197843.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.70f038dadOsIAd&mp=1
it is looks like basic 1020 no cooling hole...
Very expensive.... I remember I bought them 1euro/pair some years ago!
Yeah 112g is over.... need big battery that is more weight..... if got crush? more weight is more chance to get damage or brake carbon or arm.... more weight is more force of motor and it turns to very hot very fast maybe some plastic turn to melt? etc... for brushed every single gram is calculated and important! I tried to diet nonstop :) start from 70g now my is 62-63 gram and can not see more chance to loose more weight even 4 motors can be 35gramm....
Everything is more expensive more. I might try these 32000rpm motors in the future.
Yeah i think the 1020 motors are too small for my quad, i found these ones with 40000rpm :
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DC9yOS9
They are bigger, have a cooling hole and 1mm shaft.
The biggest problem with brushed quads is that the motors are very heavy, my quad needs to loose some weight also.
