I built this drone inspired soley on my love for the Darwin baby ape.(one of my favorite RTF tiny quads) and hoped to build a drone that could use the same propellers, and feel similar. throughout the building process i found this drone was going to be a lot heavier than I planned on. ( that being said this thing turned out NOTHING LIKE A BABY APE) So i ended up upgrading the motor sizes, and found different propellers that would provide the needed thrust. As this is my first original build, it was an adventure finding the compatible parts to make this thing work.

The frame I found was a ReadyToSky- Apex clone, that i found on amazon, quite similar to the Real Apex frame, according to the videos I've seen. Ran about 30 bucks.
I ordered a 20x20 FC-ESC combo which was a DIatone Mamba, nice little stack, but they went out of stock like the day after i bought one, so you might need to make another FC work.

So at this point i knew i was going for a heavier three inch build. the motors i ordered initally were too small, they were MAMBA TOKA 1202 motors, and they would work well with the Baby ape Propellers but, long story short i found the perfect comment in a review of a motor, stating they were building a Heavier 3 inch(perfect) and were running 6s, for speed, 4s for power. These were BrotherHobby VY 1507 3100Kv Micro Motors. I went ahead and found some propellers, that had a better pitch, to generate some more thrust, and came across the HQProp 3x4x3 Tri-Blade Propeller 3 inch Props after getting them on there everything was looking great!
I decided to run these motors on 6s, for speed, so i ended up with some RDQ Series 22.8V 6S 660mAh 90C LiHV Batteries

the vtx i got happened to work kinda well with the build. it was a HGLRC Zeus Nano 16x16/20x20/25x25 25-350mW 5.8GHz VTX - U.FL
and connected a iFlight Sigma FPV U.FL Antenna 5.8G 3dBi Micro RHCP to the VTX.
lastly i had a camera laying around, from an old quad i couldnt get working again. it was a RunCam Micro Swift 600TVL 2.1mm IR Blocked 1/3 CCD FPV Camera

I personally designed the skids for this drone, even though the frame came with some. mine dont require you to use the screw holes.

This quad flies great, and i cant wait for the weather to calm again so i can get some more outdoor flight time in. because it is TOOO big even for my empty basement. I can fly it in there, but it crashes harder than a babyape, or a tiny whoop. so beware  this thing rips. i would love to hear if someone tries something similar out.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
