3  140  2

I took a chance on this 3 inch build and went for a completely unknown frame that looked really appealing in the advert photos. Was a bit of an effort to shoehorn everything in, but the canopy was flexible and I could raise the height of the rear standoffs by around 8 or so mm which was sufficient enough to clear my stack without having to raise the front mounting points. Thankfully, the canopy's shape didn't warp when raising the rear so everything looks consistent and nice.

The JHEMCU F411 AIO FC is OK although finidng any documentation on it (like which UART is associated with wich rx / tx pin) is genuinely impossible. Wiring diagrams also appear to be either homebrew or difficult to source. One issue that I encountered is that the bootloader button was so delicate (or faulty), it didn't survive 1 momentary press. If I want to flash the FC again in future, I'll need to desolder the faulty buttion and bridge the gap with solder (which is annoying). The Integrated ESCs are well above spec for me as I am drawing less than 12A on average. Also, I don't really have any requirements for additional UARTS, so this FC suits me perfectly.

I printed the mounts for the Immortal T antenna from my own design. Would have liked the mounts to be black, but I didn't have any filament in that color. I also ordrered fluoro green props and these are what I got, so the color combo isn't what I had exactly planned - still, I am fairly chuffed with the way it came out.

The quad itself flies great and is very agile and fast with the 3" x 2.8 props and a 550MAH battery. I feel that I could probably go slightly bigger on the batt side (probably a 650mah), but I get around 6 minutes of hooning with the 550s which isn't terrible. Over all, I am very happy with this build and am amazed at what was possible to achieve in a 3" form factor. I am thoroughly enjoying it right now but looking to build a decent 5" next.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
