4/21 - The Tinywhoop 0802 IGOW Dan Seguano motors at 27k kv are just stupid fast. Having huge issue with yaw washout after sharp moves or even a powerloop. Flashing over to QuickSilver and watching the wind speed outside and its currently 12-15mph so I will wait for lower. Get the Tinywhoop IGOW 27k kv 0802 1.5mm shaft motorts!!!

Update 4/17 - Am not able to get these motors enought power. Tried the 500mah tattu 95c and it still just studdered in the air so out they went. I set up email alert on these new motors and have 30 seconds of flight on them and am already excited. Using the 27000kv 0802 Tinywhoop IGOW Dan Seguano motors with 1.5mm shaft. Had som gemfans laying around and oh wow these sound cool. Putting m1.6x14mm screws on order to redo FC mountig, Dont copy this just yet.

Cant stop building these...Fractal Engineering makes the best whoop frames. Due to ordering one with thicker bottom plate from their webside and their including of extra fasteners I had enough spare parts minus 3 motor screws to make this. When you order a thicker bottom plate on a frame they still include the thinner one as spare. Just saw that RotorRiot has new 0802 motors (Hypertrain) at 29700KV! Had to have them. I stupidly went to put them into a 65mm Fractal frame build. After doing an about face at 2am I went for the spare 75mm frame. Fractal offers top down screws that thread into the carbon bottom plate. Those screws only cover a small silicone grommet or stack bushing worth due to short length. Althought I could probably save another gram by eliminating the plugs and directly soldering I honestly think I will be replacing parts and will appreciate having the ease of unplugging vs unsoldering. Since I am not flipping the FC upside down I had to elevate it to for the USB port not to scrape or impede the battery slot.

The last 75mm I built I drilled out the frame to allow for m2 stack screws. Found some M1.6 screws that did the trick on amazon this time. They had captive washer, came with nuts and I had a 1.5mm drill bit laying around. Technically I enlarged the stack screw holes to be the same as the motor holes, M1.6. Hand reaming the holes with the bit made 1.6mm holes that I had to thread the screws up so they very tight and solid. Putting the nut at the base added the height needed for the usb port to clear the battery. Pushing down on the FC can cause the nut to absorb into the grommet but I prefer to push the flight controller upwards and make the top nut sink into the grommet as it acts like loctite not letting the nut unthread. The rear screw was inverted as the captive washer adds height and the screwhead scraped the battery. Although the m2 grommets are loose on m1.6 screws the nut captured up top centers and I prefer this to making an M2 hole in the carbon again.

Used a Happymodel X12 for FC as its 12a capacity should be perfect for the 7.6 amps that the 0802's pull. The overhead should buffer the ESC for things like taking off from grass after a crash. Not planning on it, just saying it happens. At 5.1 grams this FC rocks compared to its competition. The motors came with long leads. After soldering on shorter leads the weight looked better. 1.8 grams for a dual bearing 0802, nice! The ducts are from a mobula v2 frame and are the weakest / lightest of the options. May have to switch upto the v4 ducts for better strength and added weight depending on frequencty of crashing. v4 ducts will add a gram.

Firmware wise I only recently discovered Quicksilver after selling off most of my f411 based flight controllers on ebay. Anyone frustrated with betaflight making moores law evident on fliight controllers should check out Quicksilver. It's like KISS. Simple and easy, F411's can run dshot 600 again, yay!! Upon loading it up and seeing they had a profile for the Fractal 65 and 75 I knew it was a good decision. Makes F411 flight contrllers usable again and is, in my opinion, better than betafliight. Or it is like betaflight on an active diet. https://config.bosshobby.com/#/home. It even has a setting for power to weight ratio. Drooling.

The antenna was the only part that made me think. Everything else made this like a kit that needed no soldering (minus battery lead and motor leads that is). Didn't want to drape an antenna across the length of the FC so I went with an TBS 0.4g VTX antenna that had no glue left on it. Added 3M VHB double sided tape to keep it pinned to a duct keeping routing simple for easy removal if needed. Dabbed electronics grade slicone on the areas that looked like they may cause vibration. Bluejay on the ESC's needs considerable start up power added for these motors. I finished this up at 5am and today I have 20mph winds outside. Vids to come. Replaced the ducts a day after posting so I updted adding 3 more images on 4/2 all at top row

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
