Not a final build, just a mockup. If you happen to come across this and have comments, critiques, and concerns though they are welcome.
First timer, Building a 7" long range drone thats more tuned for cruising and/or exploring, but perhaps also has a "fun switch" that will give it more juice to do tricks with if i dont mind nuking my flight time. Presently not concerned with carrying a GoPro, the footage from the DVR on my goggles should be sufficient if i ever wanted to review it, but im not completely ruling out adding one on in the future.
Goggles and radio i already have, bought them back in 2021ish when i was originally looking to get into FPV. From what i understand they should still be sufficient but if anyone has a compelling reason to swap either out im all ears.
Parts Rational:
Frame: Ive read favorable opinions on the AOS 7. Wasnt sure what the effective difference between that and the UL7 were, so i opted for the UL7 because i thought it looked cooler
Flight controller+ESC combo: Im willing to spend more on this if needed. From what i could tell though im not missing out on too many features and i might be better off saving the 70$
Motors: These seem to be the universal pick for long ranger 7" drones. Im thinking of getting the 1700kv version and then limiting the voltage in beta flight to not overdraw on typical flight, but then maybe binding a switch to allow more through for more spicy flights? maybe in conjunction with a prop change?
Propellers: The smaller pitch on these are said to be a more efficient
FPV Camera: Im willing to put more money into this componant as well seeing as itll be my primary recording source. This had good reviews
VTX: Seems to be the gold standard for VTXs. If there is better id like to know about it though
Antenna:
Receiver: 20$ for the best in slot ELRS solution sounds like a no brainer to me
Battery: The frame claims it can carry 3x 3000mah 6s batterys, but i figure itd be easier to set everything up to just run on 1 bigger battery than 3 smaller batteries
GPS: i have no loyalty to this pick in particular, but it was the one with the most reccomends
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
