My second build coming out of what is rapidely becoming an assembly line to the despair of my wife (a 2.5" cinewhoop and 3" toothpick also on the way ;) )
I decided to add some complexity - it was just as I completed my first build so I was feeling invincible! So - GPS w GPS mate, external barometer as this FC did not feature any and some fancy flyhighfpv Led - super bright as fed by the main battery voltage.
The LED's took a bit more time to arrive than expected so I had the chance to fly a few packs already and it flies beautifully. It feels a bit more sedate than my 3.5" on 1604 but could likely improve by fitting higher pitch props.

Lee @ 3d-aqua (ebay UK) did some amazing prints for the arm guards to fit the LED strip (as well as those super snug side walls to protect the stack) - so I had to make use of them despite not being able to stick the strip around the arms as they have a porous texture. Luckily enough the AOS frame is a joy to work on and droping all the arms and the under plate is super easy.
I used some strong transparent tape to fix the strip keeping each arm independant just in case...
Anyway - I just love the result with those single color strips so it was well worth the extra effort :)

Update 19th Aug 2024 - I did update the 1750kv motors to the 2020kv I had planned for a race frame and they are still on there :) - it feels now very responsive and quick on par with my 3.5inch (20% hover throttle). Flight time suffers so I now fly the 1400mAh with it to get just about 4mn or energetic flying. Really chuffed with the result :)

Super clean build!
Less zip than your 3.5? Are you running the 1750kv version of those motors?

Yeah - I was also with some 5.1x2.5 props so loads of headroom there.

The 1950's would make you SUBSTANTIALLY faster than the 3.5. Honestly a different class of fast. It will make you think that spaces that are appropriate for the 3.5" are WAY to small for the 5"

Ha - I am interested in testing all this tbh. Still very new to the hobby and I assumed that you could match prop pitch to the kv for max thrust - which I linked more to stator size in my head. I have just ordered a set of 2020kv with an AOS5R frame - because of course I needed one :D . I can see myself adding some of those racewire boards and test different motor configs on both drones :)

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
