Wanted to try a 5" racer - following the freestyle build I just completed (AOS 5 V5).
Build was challenging in the sense there is very little estate to play with. I wanted to try the naked configuration - ie using a Walksnail Mini VTX but was worried about the impact it would have on the GPS reception.
Everything just about fitted with the original 25mm standoffs. No space for my usual GPS mate though so added a RealPit board to be able to switch the VTX on/off on demand. Using the spare RX of the DJI compatible FC socket to hookup the RealPit board also allows to keep it all behind the sinlge JST connector making for very easy opening of the quad (2 JST connectors and the 2 camera screws and the top comes off completely - VTX, Camera, antenna, realPit board and GPS unit)
I was recommended to load the Betaflight Karate race preset - and I must say the quad behaves pretty much perfectly from the get go.
GPS also works a treat despite sitting literally on top of the naked VTX - even with transmission power set to 500mW - a very pleasant surprise :)
Performance is incredible - max amp draws is north of a 100A and while motors and stack get a bit hot - it is all very reasonable. I went for middle of the road prop pitch to start with (5.1x3.7) - but pretty sure it can handle higher pitch without problem.
As usual Lee @ 3d-aqua (ebay UK) sorted some amazing arm guards to incorporate those LED strips I like so much - this time hardwired to a balance plug connector directly.
Very pleased with the result - my new favorite quad :)
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
