From depths beyond the Mariana Trench, I'm serving up the coldest TPU in the game to bring you Iceman Chuck. I decided to try the TBS Source One V5 frame for this build. I spent a considerable amount of time searching for the best layouts with all available 3D parts on Printables, Cults3D, and Thingiverse. This is my final setup after printing various versions of buzzers, camera capacitors, antenna, and VTX mounts.

The total build cost is around $350, not inclduing 3D printed material, extra hardware, misc supplies.
The total weight is 652 grams with SpeedyPizza 1200mah battery.
It flies great with UAVTECH's preset and will do a custom tune later.

Extra hardware you will need and things to note before you build

  • You will need a 3D printer to make this all work and be clean. Use Brain3D, FlyhighFPV, etc if you need to get the parts printed.
  • The yaw orientation of the board is flipped 180. It works better with the capicator and buzzer mount this way.
  • You will need to print M2 to M3 screw convertors to mount the VTX correctly. I also use spacers to give some seperation from the VTX and frame to run wires smoothly underneath.

Print these 3D printed parts

Build Notes:

  • UART 2 for VTX
  • UART 6 for ELRS RX
  • My motor wires are a tad short because I was using SpeedyBees f4 stack...Thing crapped out before it even took off. HolyBro seems to be much more reliable and worth the additional $30.
  • When plugging in the battery, make sure the wire is tucked into the battery staps. No more unplugged quads when crashing.
  • Print the fin to make your power loops bigger :) No really this is just to protect the battery.

Build Updates:
8-31-24

  • Ripped 20 packs on it with some inital thoughts
  • Need to dail in the tune, high punches to the throttle cause some wobbles at the high end.
  • Added a ziptie right behind the fin to eliminate the power wire from propstike (see picture with yellow tape)
  • M2 to M3 adapter ripped during hard crash - looking into using a washer in the setup somewhere as well (see picture).

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
