You'll realize soon enough that this is not a tinyhawk at all! good eye. here's why:
Back in the day I had bought an Emax Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle, a very nice little quad that brought me my first memories with carbon frame FPV. It was my second drone after losing my Meteor85 pro on a night flight. After leaving the hobby for a couple of years, I decided to come back and attempt to frankenstein together something that could still work.
My Th2FS had all the possible mods back in the day: I swapped the battery lead and I had bought an ELRS module and a Pro32 Nano for better range (my radio couldn't do the Th2's original ACCST), all sitting on the white TinysLED. The motors were the original ones, but they were the only ones compatible with that frame.
After crashing one too many times, I quit FPV: not having much money at the time to fix my quad, and having other things going through my mind (also seeing barely any innovation in the entire hobby) i decided to take a long break. However I still spent a good amount of hours in Liftoff in the meanwhile.
Cut to last november, I suddenly get interested in the hobby and decide to rebuild my Tinyhawk.
I tried using the parts i already had, but I was rusty from not handling a soldering iron for literally years and ended up ruining the motor wires, which I didn't have any good wires to splice with: Here I thought to rebuild the quad from the ground up. The Betafpv 868 RX i had bought back in the day had died (or so I had thought), the Pro32 Nano I had died as I accidentally bridged a solder pad and the free UART i had on the TH2FS's AIO board got fried in the process. I also ripped my Runcam Nano 2's Video Out pad as i was removing it from the frame.
TLDR, I really wanted to fly, but every part i had was either dead or didn't work properly.
So I decided to do a complete rebuild, my Ship of Theseus TH2FS was born.
I bought new batteries, a new FC and motors, a new camera, RX and VTX.
The motors were the closest i had to the ones on the TH2: from 1103 7000kv i jumped up to 1103 8000kv.
I chose the cheapest FC on the market because I decided i wasn't spending 80 bucks on some fancy pants for a drone this small
I could've chosen the FC model with integrated ELRS but i decided not to because I had a 868mhz TX and didn't want to spend more money on another TX module (spoiler: I did)
Pro32 Nano: no doubt the best tiny vtx on the market, plenty of range and a clean signal. Wish TBS wasn't on the brink of failure, they made great products but open source won against them. I still bought a spare one since it's so hard coming by a shop that has one in stock
Caddx Ant: cheapest camera on the market, good colours and clarity, best 14mm analog camera imo
Antenna: Foxeer Lollipop Micro: it works and it had good reviews when i bought it in 2022. Never broke so never swapped.
Rx and Tx module:
I had a betafpv 868mhz nano elrs module, from the first ever batch they made, which served me very well. I decided to upgrade to 2.4ghz when i saw the Jumper AION nano combo on aliexpress for 30 bucks. It didn't fit in my x9 lite's module bay, so i opened it up and soldered it in the radio. Now I have no more module bay but i won't need one for the foreseeable future. There is no reason for me to upgrade my radio right now, everything works correctly and it's grown on me.
The Frame: I was looking at various frames from cubefpv (check him out! he has a good looking online shop with unusual micro frames and some absurd bargains on motors and FCs. ships from AU), but then settled on the Darwin Tinyape: it's cheap and I won't cry if I crash it a little too hard. Also comes with PIDs!
Beware to anyone buying this frame, you will need to file the motor holes. As they come, they are way too small and I've broken the first screw I put there. TAKE ALL THE NEEDED PRECAUTIONS WHILE FILING/DRILLING CARBON FIBER! HUGE RESPIRATORY HAZARD!
As a battery pad I'm using the rubber from an old, huge mousepad/deskmat. 10 bucks gets you all you're ever gonna need. seriously. ummagrip is great and all, but you can get 40"x15" of non slip, soft rubber for the price of two small pieces of ummagrip.
I am looking to change the frame to the Kayoumini once it's in stock at DFR. That was the entire inspiration for this whole build (other than the parts i already had available)
I am calling this build the Ship of Theseus because in my head this has always been the same Tinyhawk that brought me all those memories, just modified and fixed enough times to have become a completely different drone. I'm not wealthy enough to just buy a new 5 inch or even a 3.5, so this is my way of enjoying the hobby.
I hope one day I can fix my old TH2FS and rip two of these cuties at a time!
I will upload better photos at a later date

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

Nice build mate! No need to feel shame for not being able to throw n hundreds for bnf 5 inch. Main thing that you enjoy hobby in your personal way, and also have a kind of attachment to your drone. I think its priceless and no fancy rtf drone can buy it.
