The Goals Behind ERA DC

Our goal was to create a lightweight, highly efficient GoPro-carrying platform capable of handling any cinematic challenge. Whether tracking fast-moving cars at a 40° tilt or capturing smooth aerial shots with 0° tilt, ERA DC is the go-to choice for cinematic FPV and livestreaming jobs - all with no props in view.

The Development of ERA DC

ERA DC was designed by Nils aka dod.fpv and tested extensively by me to ensure it meets the highest standards of performance and reliability. The goal was to develop a platform that excels in diverse environments, from high-speed chases to slow, controlled cinematic movements. Throughout the testing phase, ERA DC proved its durability and efficiency in extreme conditions.

One of the most challenging test scenarios was high-speed rally chase flights for livestreaming WRC events, where ERA DC was pushed to its limits. Whether in dry, dusty terrain or wet, unpredictable conditions, the frame delivered stable, high-quality results. Real-world feedback from these tests refined the final design, ensuring ERA DC is a reliable tool for professional FPV pilots.

Why 5.5-inch Props?

As action cameras continue to grow heavier, 5.5-inch props offer the perfect middle ground between 5-inch and 6-inch setups. A typical 5-inch platform can feel underpowered and inefficient under heavier loads, while 6-inch prop setups are too "lightweight" and often lack sufficient prop loading, making the drone feel floaty.

5.5-inch props combine the best of both worlds in this class. They retain the agility and precise handling of a 5-inch setup while delivering the improved efficiency, power, and thrust of a larger prop. Simply put: you get the snappy, responsive feel of a 5-inch quad with the efficiency and extended flight times of a larger prop.

What Makes ERA DC Stand Out?

Deadcat Geometry with Optimized CG

Designed for cinematic shots, the deadcat layout keeps props out of frame while maintaining an excellent center of gravity for smooth, stable flight. For enhanced reliability and easy maintenance, ERA DC incorporates the Interlock V2 arm-locking mechanism, the same proven system used in the ERA frame. This innovative design secures the arms with a single screw, streamlining maintenance while ensuring exceptional noise performance. The result is flawless, jello-free footage from both the FPV and action cameras

Cinematic Nylon Camera Cage

The new cinematic nylon camera cage offers smooth, step-free angle adjustments using just the GoPro feet. My personal highlight: A custom titanium M5 bolt. Adjustments are quick and easy with a 2.5mm hex key, a staple in every FPV pilot's toolkit. Unlike the original freestyle nylon camera cage of ERA, the FPV camera is soft-mounted for improved stabilization in Gyroflow.

Uncompromising Build Quality

ERA DC is built to withstand the demands of professional pilots who push their gear to the limits. We use only the best materials and components to ensure unmatched durability and performance. The frame features 55% higher-grade carbon fiber than typical FPV frames, 12.9 hardened fasteners, 7075 aluminium standoffs, a super sticky lipo pad, injection-molded skids, and the best FPV straps in the world – our ultra-durable nylon Kevlar battery straps.

Recommended Motors and Props

Our it's 2208 1750kv motors in collab with T-Hobby are the ideal choice. The larger stator handles the demands of 5.5-inch props with ease, delivering excellent efficiency and throttle resolution. The recommended propeller is the Gemfan 5536, offering high efficiency, great throttle control, and top speeds of 150-160 km/h with our motors.

Battery Recommendations

The Tattu R-Line 1700mAh 6S 95C battery was chosen for its slim form factor, which maintains optimal CG while offering high capacity and reliable performance.

PID and Filter Tuning

Our PIDs and filters are optimized for the following setup, though they will likely work well with other flight controllers featuring ICM-42688-P or MPU6000 gyros. Always check for hot motors during your tuning process.
