This build is the result of weeks of planning, iteration, and testing — combining power, crisp video, and a minimal form factor with the reliability of a solid flight stack. I wanted a platform small enough to rip through tight spaces, but strong enough to carry a DJI O4 Lite with clean signal and no overheating.
Build:
• Frame: Custom-printed 2.5” frame in pusher configuration
• Motors: Happymodel EX1404 3500KV
• Props: HQProp T2.5x3.5x3 (for a punchy but efficient balance)
• Flight Controller: JHEMCU GHF722 AIO (40A)
• VTX: DJI O4 Lite (mounted above AIO with aluminum case for heat dissipation)
• Receiver: Built-in ELRS 2.4G
• Battery: 4S 650/550/750mAh (top tested config)
• Weight (AUW): ~90g without battery

Some challenges:
• Board Alignment: FC is flipped 180° (pitch) and rotated 180° (yaw) — full pusher orientation. Had to configure Betaflight to correct gyro orientation.
• Power to O4: The AIO lacked a dedicated BEC, so I wired in a Mamba BEC board to ensure clean 12V regulated output within DJI’s voltage limits (7–13.2V).
• Stacking: The build uses M2 standoffs through the 25.5x25.5 stack mount — securing the O4, AIO, and canopy with a single column of hardware. It took careful planning to keep the weight centered and the components isolated.
• Battery Mounting: Battery sits underneath (pusher layout), which posed impact risks — solved with a TPU skid and reinforced battery straps.
• Receiver + Cap + BEC: Space was tight — all components were placed with millimeter precision between frame arms and secured with tape and foam to prevent flex damage.

Reason to build it?
I want to fly in the park...

This drone sits in the sweet spot between a cinewhoop and a ripper — cinematic lines, quick recovery, and small enough to fit in a backpack or fly indoors.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
