CRUX35 DJI 04 lite conversion

The CRUX35 has somewhat of a cult following; It's a great quad extremely light (so don't crash it), cheap and readably available. Very long flight times easily achieving 10 minutes. Plus lots of support from the community.

I've installed a DJI 04 lite air unit into mine.

Currently I am using my own design fixed 20deg camera mounts.

I've included a picture showing how to connect the 04 air unit to the FC.

I kept the Happy Model tune, just added my own OSD. The two CIL commands that suddenly made the OSD appear are:-
set_displayport_device = MSP
set_vid_video_system = HD
Then in the OSD tab select HD in the video format

With rocksteady off some intermittent very slight vibration is present in the camera recording and feed. With rocksteady on the camera recording is quite bad although the feed is acceptable. Hence keep rocksteady off.

I use various 4s lipo's 750mha, 850mah and 1100mah Gaoneng 60c/120c at only 88gms. The 1100mah lipo provides over 15 minutes crushing time.

I've tried to keep the quad very simple and the weight low to keep with the theme of the CRUX35- extremely acrobatic with long flight times.

I tried the Hunter Ligeti camera mounts but had some issues with them.
The camera mounting holes in his were 3mm for the M2 camera bolts I've reduced these hole to 2.5mm.
The bracket are a little week hence I've made them stronger (less cutouts) although mine will be very slightly heavier.
My props touched the variable angle version, hence I melted the brackets with a soldering iron.
When using the variable angle version with limit up tilt the mounting bracket is visible in the camera feed.
His 35deg mount had too much up tilt for my ability.
Hence my proposed new design's.

My intention is to produce fixed angel designs from 15deg to 55deg in 5deg increments. With the camera placed further back for all variants above 35deg so that the props don't hit the brackets.

In the future maybe I will investigate modifying the tune, consider different motors although I like the weight and simplicity of the AIO FC so will probably try to stick with the CrazyF411 but maybe solder the motor wires.

Super fun! In the world of aircraft that light grams REALLY matter. The batteries you are using are all overweight for that weight bracket, try some in the 450-650mah size range, you will REALLY feel the difference! I don't know your flight style, so I don;t know if you will like it. It will become MUCH more agile and responsive to your inputs (as well as faster). MAYBE that sounds good to you. You may be in a place where that all sounds bad, and if so we can just pretend I didn't say anything :)

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
