My very first full build. I went with very simple and straightforward components with a large frame that would give me ample space to work with. I decided to go with separate components for the PDB, FC, and ESCs rather than going with the AIO or 4-in1s, which helped me gain a better understanding how they all function together.
I'm very proud that everything went smoothly throughout the entire process, from assembly and wiring, to flashing BF and BLheli Suite, and getting everything set appropriately in BF Configurator. I feel like I really lucked out.
Took her out for her maiden flight and everything went well. Handles great, especially coming from the Wizard 220 that I started with.
Started with a few LOS maneuvers, but quickly switched to FPV and put it through the paces. By the end of the 3rd pack I was rippin around full speed. No major issues yet besides some video interference which I'll be addressing below.
Standard tune was sufficient, but it felt a lot better when I bumped up the rates. I'll want to learn more of how to properly tune the PIDs eventually, but think I'll wait until I've put in some more hours with the stock ones so I'll be able to better feel the differences.
There's definitely some video interference issues I've got to clean up. Sometimes it's pretty clear, but most of the time I get increasing amounts of horizontal bands and general static with throttle or when I get out farther than 60m. Occasionally, especially during some maneuver that's stressing the motors, the entire video stutters, blacks out momentarily, then reappears. My assumption is that the interference is related to the motor and ESC noise.
I'm going to try out an LC filter and some low ESR capacitors to see if that helps. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers!
Did you have any issues getting your RX wired and communicating to your FC? I have a Betaflight F4 and FS-IA6B, and I have tried iBUS and PPM onevery single UART. No luck...

Martian buds! Nice build! I see we both got antennas from those Room 412 guys. These motors are great for the price right!?
awesome build! good to hear everything went well with the soldering and flashing!
i'm in mockup mode for my first quad.
another thing what's grinding my gear is the FPV goggle/box option. how did you sort that out and what did you get?
Happy flying!
Thanks! I have some cheap box goggles (Eachine EV800) that I got when I was first starting out. They're not too bad for a starter set. I like viewing one screen instead of two tiny screens, but they are quite bulky to haul around and look extra crazy to bystanders. I'm looking to upgrade to the Aomway Commanders when they're finally in stock to have some lower profile goggles and diversity.
Good luck with your build!
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
