I Floss Too

The Struggle

I struggled to finish this build because I did not want to steer people in the wrong direction on the antenna mounting.

Impressions and flight

I have put many flights on it so far. Tuning was really easy. Very little noise in this build. Have pulled 115 amps in straight away runs on a track. I had motors from another build that I am not excited to have on this quad but the positive is they are not battery killers like many of the new motors out now. I have tried flying the frame with the battery on the bottom and the top. I have landed on flying with it on the top. I have seen many pod 3d prints for the floss frames. They look pretty but Kabab FPV talks about his experience flying with it on top and bottom in a floss 2 video. The frame was designed to fly with the battery on top.

The Frame

A few things to note about this frame. The camera location will get the props in view while flying. I could pull the camera up in the build but wanted to get the camera as close to the bottom of the frame to keep the camera in one location when doing flips. The battery can get in view of the camera if you run it too far forward. That was one of the issues with the first antenna mount besides it being too weak. Running the power wires out the back of the quad can get into the props if you are not careful where you run it. The design is built with such tight tolerances you need to keep the build nice and tight.

The Build

To build the Floss 2 I started with putting the frame together then decided I wanted to use shrink wrap on the arms for the motor wires. I then did the homer D'OH!. Next I put the esc and FC on the frame to try to see how everything would fit. Then after about an hour if fiddling with different standoffs I came to what I have pictured. I have used the FC and ESC before on another build. To show how I ran the power wire into the FC then from the FC hitting the current sensor then onto the ESC. Next I got all the wiring done for the rest of the items. Not forgetting to jumper 3v for the receiver. I always run a buzzer to make sure I do not lose the quad when I am flying. Then the fun started. Antenna madness. During this madness I removed the mounting plate and double side taped the Unify (FPV Transmitter) to the FC. I went through 13 different versions of mounting the antenna because I wanted to have it come out the back. Plus I wanted the antenna to be far enough away from the battery to get good signal. I would have saved myself a lot of time if I had just used the antenna mount that Kabab designed into the frame. I purchased a Runcam Eagle 2 to start with and then decided to get a smaller camera (micro Swift 2). Positive thing is I put the Eagle in my Chameleon.

3d Printed antenna mounts (my designs)

  1. Hyperlite Floss 2 - Lumenier AXII mount
  2. Hyperlite Floss 2 - Lumenier AXII U.FL mount

3d Printed antenna mounts from others

  1. Floss V2 and SlimPhast AXII antenna mount
  2. Floss 2 AXII VTX Mount - Gets in the way of the battery
  3. Floss 2 unify mount - Not enough space for sma wire hits the FC. You need to put the camera on the other side of the frame.
  4. Sma mounts - Get the antenna into the props
  5. HyperLite Floss 2 SMA Pigtail Mount w/ Hex - Too weak would need to print one every time you crashed
  6. Hyperlite Floss 2 GoPro Freestyle Racing Drone - I liked this one because it held the power wires away from the props but lots of plastic
  7. SMA connector standoff mount - Not stable enough could move around in a crash and get the antenna into the props

those power wires between the boards in your stack are OBVIOUSLY WAY TOO BIG buddy

I put in new Matek FC and a Unify Pro V3. Since I was buying parts for my rooster. Just to give you an example on weight it was originally 297g now it is 294g. The TBS vtx is 2g lighter and I have 14aug wire from my FC to the ESC. I saved 1g using 14aug vs 12aug. "OBVIOUSLY" Weight is not an issue here.

dude that's 1g of Winning! for me my sentiment is mostly because when I did a bf fc I did big wires and it was an anal pain to fit everything on tight frames. Like I said if its working its working! How do you like your matek FC I just did one of those too I like it a lot. Which one did you get?

I got the 2 of the 405 CTR for a rooster build I just finished. I have been having issues with smart audio and telemetry from my spedix 4 in 1. The flight is good it feels locked in with out of the box pids. Nice to have the picture of where I hooked up the wires to the FC to make sure I have the correct UART setup.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
