I was very surprise to see the final weight of this setup to be 182 grams. That is the same weight as my MRM Micro Scythe 130mm. I assumed the 160mm Reaper would weigh more because of the RunCam Split camera, larger frame and motors.
I always wanted to record HD videos with my smaller 3 inch frames but it wasn't worth the added weight. Sure, I can add a GoPro Session but the performance and flight times will suffer. As you can see with this build I'm able to record HD videos with the new Runcam Split and yet it still only weighs 182 grams. It's not the lightest setup but I am happy with the outcome.
The one major drawback with this camera is the props being in view while recording in HD because the camera is mounted so s low.
FPV has had quite a journey. Just a few years ago we started racing drones around a track and doing flips over trees, but professional cinematic FPV is a more recent development. DJI has always owned the drone photography market, but smaller acrobatic drones are starting to enter the market. They have the advantage of close proximity flight indoors and around people. Read moreFor the longest time we've been limited to 3 to 4 minutes of flight and lots and lots of batteries. With more efficient motors and frame designs it's now possible to push the envelope much further. This guide will walk you through the process of building a micro long range quad capable of flying 8-30 minutes and more than 4km. The build is moderately difficult, but with the right tools and steady hands..
