This was my first 5" build in the spring of 2017. The new Omnibus Pro and Betaflight OSD sold me from the moment I saw them. I decided to get quality parts in the hopes this build could last me for a while. I wasn't let down.
I went with the Returner R3s 2300kv because I didn't think I needed extreme power to start off. Needless to say, these motors were amazing.
I printed all the TPU bits to carry my GoPro and protect the motors. The motors are soft mounted and the FC is now mounted on bobbins.
To be honest, it was a bit of a challenge to fit all the adequate wiring needed to run through the current sensor and to the 4-in-1 esc. I made sure the whole design was hinged for easy access and repairs. The XSR is mounted on top of the FC and wired to send the uninverted s.port telemetry to the F4 FC. The Unify Pro Race is wired for smart audio.
This build was about ~310g dry and 570g all up with a GoPro. It's been a quick and dependable quad with plenty of power to learn on.
I've tried out a ton of props on this quad including: HQ 5x4x3; HQ 5x4x4; HQ 5x4.3x3; RK 5045 BN; Azure PC; and Cyclone 5046.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
