This is a relatively cheap 3s build I put together over a year or so, gradually acquiring parts and upgrading it I'm still in school so don't have much income to speak of, so parts had to be cheap and it took a while to save money for each part, this is why you may notice the parts are quite outdated and don't make a lot of sense to use together.
The parts list you see here is the current incarnation of the build, a lot of it has changed since I first put it together.
You may notice I didn't include the frame in the parts list... that's because it was never sold commercially. I built this quad using the G10 Prototype 'DRQ220' I got as part of a giveaway on christmas 2014, which I believe the designer intended to do as a 'beta test' for his design. For whatever reason, the frame was never actually sold, and the designer has made no new frames since. The designer is based in Ukraine. Some of their other designs can still be purchased at http://droneframes.skyprorc.com/store/index.php.
In this build I tried to use as much yellow and orange as I could, within reason. I also attempted to save weight by direct soldering where possible, and de-casing the flight controller. The total weight with the mobius and battery is 472 grams in its current form, although I'm sure this could be reduced with a lighter frame. I also saved weight by replacing the frame's 30mm steel standoffs with 19mm aluminium.
The CC3D is running (a slightly outdated version of) Betaflight, at 2Khz looptime. The ESCs, although shockingly cheap, work pretty well with Oneshot125. They do however have the typical chirping at low throttle, common to atmel BLHeli ESCs.
This was my first small 'racer' build, and overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although I would use different components were I to have bought the whole build today. Since it's only a 3s build I don't expect to win any races with it, but being fairly new to FPV it's plenty fast for me.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
