MegaMinion

This is the latest in the Komodo & K2 series of fliers.

After the bad FC problems of K2 caused it to nose-dive in the hard dry grass, I started designing a new frame from 3D printed Taulman 910 nylon. I tried a bunch of designs, including one with dropped motors to change the center of gravity - although they always had a issue with the center canopy not looking as nice as Minion's. So I decided to lengthen the arms of the Minion frame (and increase the size a bit for 1407 motors) and use the same canopy for both, since they use the same components. The result I dubbed MegaMinion.

A few of notes about the Lumenier 25A 4in1 ESC.
A) They soldered the + and - battery wires in place, then conformal coated the whole thing. In order to get battery + and - up to the FC and to solder in a capacitor, you'll have to hack away at the conformal coating then burn down their giant solder blobs.
B) In order to save themselves some panelizing costs, they made the + and - battery contacts super close to the edge of the board, meaning the solder blobs for the battery contacts will probably spark to the FC. You'll have to increase your stack height by at least 3mm in order to use this ESC. I ended up with a 8mm spacing between FC and ESC !
C) Some of the motor solder pads are cut in half, due to either bad routing or not enough room between boards on the panel.
D) The ESC runs extremely rough. My motors were flaming hot in about 2 seconds. I had to drop it down to Dshot150, turn off Dynamic Filtering, and use 3S just to keep the motors cool.
E) It has the same manufacturing sticker as the Racerstar
. (Funny, my bad review of the esc didn't show up on GetFPV...)

For those of you wondering where the XM+ is; it is inside of the bottom frame under the stack. In the second-to-last image you can see a depression between the stack screws.

every site deletes negative reviews; being a slime ball is just human nature. kinda ironic when you think about how temporary material wealth really is. i mean like was selling your soul to sell more cheap chinese drone parts really worth it?

What are your d-term settings at? For a similar build it didn't calm down until I dropped the P values a hair and the D values down to like 10.... but BF3.2 DSHOT600 and dynamic filtering with notch filters disabled and PT1 helped immensely once the lower d values reduced the heat. Awesome design!!

I don't know if you've experienced this, but I have found that nylon ends up being a bit more flexible and much more durable if you drop it in hot water (just off boil) for like 30 min (with or without dye) - maybe that's not desired for this build though....

My Dterm settings are default, since I have dynamic filtering basically turned off. The values are 100 lowpass, 260 frequency, 160 cutoff, 0 yaw lowpass.

The nylon frame is the perfect stiffness when I print it but it gradually gets more bendy through the next week or so.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
