This is my first build. It started off as a simple cheap build, but then I kept upgrading the components until it wasn't a 'cheap' build anymore. This is still a budget build, with specifically updated components. It will be a beginner learning/freestyle machine, so weight isn't much of a concern.

Build

Frame

I started off the build by painting/sealing the edges of the carbon with yellow oil paint. I did this by sanding the edges, dripping a bead of thin CA glue on them, and painting them with a yellow Sharpie oil pen. I need four coats to get the color I wanted.

Electronics

I decided to use the DYS F4 flight controller. This FC has a PDB built in, which made soldering much easier. I also really liked the built in OSD.

While soldering the motor 4 signal wire I burned off the pad, so I had to reroute that wire to the LEDSTRIP pad and change it in Betaflight. A really simple solution for a problem that I thought was going to be expensive.

Finishing

As I got everything together, I used black electrical tape to secure down the ESCs. I also zip tied the antenna pigtail and battery lead to the top plate to provide strain relief. I didn't like the solution of putting the antenna through the frame, and I think this works well. I also heat shrank the RX antennas to zip ties and put them off the rear stand offs to keep them out of the props.

Flight thoughts

This quad flies much, much better than my QX80. I expected them to fly at least somewhat similar, but they are completely different machines. Even in wind this quad is rock solid in the air. It is also way faster than I expected. Lots to learn. I'll check back with more thoughts as I progress.

hey, where would the beat place be to get replacement hardware like the standoffs and spacers and such?
