Bolt 150 Tanto

This little Bolt 150 Tanto is my third build and designed as a backyard basher. I'm currently flying it with a 1300 mAh 3S battery which is, obviously not what this quad deserves. A very light 850 mAh 3S or a similar-weight 1000 mAh 4S would be much better. But even with a heavy, relatively weak battery, the Bolt Tanto is a fun build. The frame itself is a work of art. Designed after the Bolt 210 Race which famed RC reviewer Bruce Simpson deemed "Sex on a Stick," the Tanto looks great and is relatively easy to build. Even though it's a tiny 150mm frame, it fits 13xx or 14xx motors, an HS1177 camera, and a full sized VTX. I'm using a Flysky micro receiver with a single copper wire antenna but that will eventually be replaced by a FrSky XSR.

Updated:
Have since changed to a TBS Triumph video antenna, a FrSky XSR-SB receiver, and an 850mAh 3S battery. Flight performance is much improved with the drop of 40g.

As built weight: 180g
AUW with 1300mAh 3S: 270g

Neat, that's a nice looking 3" frame! How do you like it?

Got it repaired (and even added some orange braided mesh to the battery lead so it looks even better now) and flew a couple packs in my yard last night. Flies great with plenty of punch for backyard bashing even with a heavy 3S. The true test will be when I get a light 3S (~40g lighter!) or a equal-weight 4S.

Awesome! Which light 3S are you considering?

RMRC Orange 850 mAh 3S. And not just because ofthe color :)

But before I pull the trigger on lighter batteries, I'm going to borrow an 850 mAh 4S to see how it performs. I will say that I am getting some long flight times on that big 1300 mah 3S. I haven't had a ton of time to fly lately but after 4+ minutes of backyard flying with some minor acro, I was at about 50% charge on my battery when I plugged it into the charger.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
