Had some issues with this build mainly due to the flight controllers (one doge dtfc and one pikoblx) now with the replacement pikoblx I have finally got it flying and its amazing fun with a power to weight of roughly 8-1
Didn't go for all out expensive parts on this build, need to swap to blheli_s at some point and a tbs unify pro vtx would be preferred but at a higher cost.
Cant recommend the Gemfan 3035x4 enough with these motors, amazing acceleration and corning abilities.
At first I was using the bottom 3D printed cowling but ditched it to save 5g, also replaced the supplied steel hardware with titanium bolts and aluminium nuts.
109mm motor to motor
running bf3.0 and ms14.6
AUW with 1000mah 4s is 239g
Maybe i should throw rcx 1707 3200kv motors and run 5s on here for a laugh..
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

Very cool! How does it handle with such large batteries, and how are your flight times?
Thanks! I was using the 850mah version before but the 1000mah are only 7g heavier. It really handles like a bigger quad. with a lighter 450mah battery whilst it is easier to control in tight areas the throttle is just ridiculously responsive, so the heavier battery kinda tones it down a bit and I mean A BIT lol the flat out speed of this is so so surprising for its size , flight times are around 3-4 mins avg or hover around 5 and a half minutes.. I don't mind swapping batteries its worth it for this :)
Good to know. I'm working on a similar build and I've been toying with the idea of using 1000mah batteries, but I'm fairly set on 850mah at this point. At 124g those 1000mah Nano techs are very heavy for a 3" build. I was told 70g is ideal and 100g is the max.
I think it really depends on how and where you're flying the extra weight in open areas doesn't matter that much, its still got more than enough power to lug around a 1300mah 4s but obviously a smaller battery will always be more responsive, these motors do have quite a demand for power though..
Good to know! I just may try a larger battery or two for the added flight time. Might just be best to have a variety: 4S 450, 3S 850 and 3S 1000.
