Raggio Velungo 7

My Raggio Veloce feels like a whole new quad now with longer arms, bigger props, more S's, 900mhz, and a new lens on the Split.

I figured I'd post it with pics and info of how it evolved.

I had been curious about the R9M module for a long time, and when the Slim RX came to my attention, I decided to finally check it out. I replaced the internal pigtail on the module so I wouldn't have to use an adapter on the TBS Diamond. The R9 Slim RX is compatible with the Immortal T, and I already had one that I bought for fit testing on my 3d prints. After flashing both the TX and RX up to date, I took them down to the lake for some tests. It was immediately clear that my transmitter was no longer the limiting factor in my range, so it was time to get the longo arms and bigger props! The R9 system has been solid for me since day 1. I'm building a wing to push it further.

After I got the longer arms, I made a run down the lake shore with 6x3x3 V1s, and wasn't impressed with the thrust. The only thing I had on my with more pitch was Ideal Prop 6x4.5x3. They definitely gave more thrust, but being big and paddley, I doubted their efficiency. I got my 7x3x3 V1s a few days ago, and I love them! They've got the thrust I was missing, and they run very smooth.

In my prop order, I also got the RC23M lens to try fixing my jello issue. I'd been trying to find an M8 lens with the longest threads. This one focused with maybe a half turn left to go. I'm thrilled to say it completely got rid of my jello! No idea what the different is, other than slightly smaller FoV. Some people said they could shake their lens and actually hear something rattle. I'd already added foam inside my sensor housing, and was about to begin experiementing with neutral density filters.

Along with longer arms and bigger props, I started flying a few 5S packs. My current range record of 4.5km was set using a 4S2P 2600 setup of 2 Tattu 75c 1300 packs.

I noticed my trusty FARVEW Pogoda was getting blocked by the tall 5S pack on return trips. Not completely but enough to cause some snow. I had just bought some coax and connectors, so I took an Axii I was using on micro stuff, and extended it way up high. Around the same time I built a FARVEW 7 turn helical. Just out of curiosity, since the kits were only $16. It works very well out around 4km. I can move my head and see when I'm out of its cone and the XAir picks up the slack, it gets very snowy.

My original Raggio Veloce Helio build flew alright out of the box, but it felt kind of wobbly. I thought I had flashed it up to date, but after getting some help and a special hex (thanks loose), it was flying nice and tight like it should. Unfortunately I've recently noticed the gyro spazzing out. The quad flies fine, but all attitude indication on the OSD shows twitching about a minute after takeoff. I'm told that my 4in1 ESC is interfering with components on the Spring. My next project is to open the stack and add in some copper tape. I'd prefer that to flipping the FC.

All in all I'm very happy with my Ragu Velungo. It's been a fun process, learning and growing alongside this build and they folks of FPVC. :)

Out of curiousity, why a separate FPV camera with the split? Have you experienced unreliability with the split as the FPV camera?

Super late answer, but I really just prefer the fpv feed from the CCD Foxeer. No problems with Split so far. I also got a session after the split.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
