Aero7 HD

After this monstrosity I figured I owed it to LAZD to build his gorgeous Aero7 properly :)
This should get some incredible range considering it's using the same drivetrain and liion packs as my XL8, but lighter and more aerodynamic, especially without the GoPro. Testing down the lake shore tomorrow!

First test at sunrise. Not great. The Hybrid OSD displayed 2.7k 60fps but recorded 1080. Also my OSD power info was off the bottom of my display, so no amp draw info.
I also noticed that either the HD camera isn't aligned with the FPV, or more likely the sensor isn't lined up evenly with the lens. The FPV feed is dead center, but HD clearly shows more of one motor. Fixed in premier, but not on this flight. I left this all raw as an example. Also I conformal coated the mic accidentally, but from what I'm hearing that might have been a good thing.

Second test midday was very good! I fixed my OSD and refreshed the Hybrid settings to 2.7k 60fps, by using UART control mode to put the Hybrid into QR mode. Everything is working well now, but it may need some tuning. It was breezy but it's got some bobble going on as well. This thing did very well on the little 4S pack. I can't wait to play with 5 or 6, but I need to put the Hybrid on a BEC before something bad happens!

I noticed you mount the HD cam above the FPV cam, did you notice that the HD recording is pointed downward a bit? I have a Hybrid in my 3" build, mounted as shown in your pics. After reviewing the HD footage, it appears to be staring at the ground most of the flight (I tend to fly low).

My HD and FPV seem pretty well aligned. You can see both on my recent videos. I didn't think it was possible for the cameras to misalign.

Yeah, after rewatching your video, i noticed that the FPV is 4:3 while the HD is 16:9, so you lose the top and bottom of the shot (top being important when flying fast). So, I'm going to try to change aspect ratio of the FPV feed. Hopefully that'll help.

I soldered together a 3s Li-ion cell like that, and my battery charger struggled to charge the middle cell, and eventually the charger died. I considered it a failure, but it might have just been the charger. Did you have any problems with your cells after you soldered them together? Any tips, or refrence videos?

Not at all. Sounds like it was the charger. I just use regular lipo 4.2 charging and charge at 1c most times.

Thanks!

Dope! I forgot I wanted to build one of these too <3

Haha! I was thinking you'd really dig it when I saw you were making that light 7". Mine isn't that light but I think it's a good balance. I'm having trouble with the BEC I installed this morning so i can run 5 & 6S with the Hybrid, but my first 5S liion flight was fantastic. :)

What batteries are those - make and model. Thanks

can you let us know what kind of current and speed you are getting? I have a similar speed focused build i am working on.

jdmkramer   14 days ago

Will do. I'm rendering video from the first flight now, but unfortunately my OSD was cut off so no Amp draw stats. Next time. I'm focusing on range more than anything with this one, but I will slap a 5s lipo on there for some speed runs when I get it all dialed in.

When the FatShark HDOs hit the market in 2018 the FPV community rejoiced for the new Sony OLED displays. While they lacked further upgrades like an updated DVR and power button they were still a market success. With the 2019 announcement of the Orqa FPV.One the community finally had a potential HDO killer on the horizon. With only weeks before the release of the Orqa FPV.One Skyzone came out of left..
