Custom Hex

I saw a design somewhat similar to this on YouTube from Quadmovr, and I like the look so I spent a lunch break at work and mocked this up. I cut it on my CNC the next evening and had it in my hand within 36 hours :D Rapid prototyping is awesome! I just finished the build and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I only had 4mm carbon on hand, and the inner arms really need to be at least 5mm, probably 6mm due to the torsional stresses caused by the outer "T" arms. Trying to decide whether it's worth actually producing, as I'm not sure there is any demand for a 5" hex frame. It was a fun diversion though!

Here's the maiden flight:

I love this design!
Better than quadmovr with regard to battery and cam placement. Can you produce a set? How much would it be with some spares?

Thanks! I think the design needs some refinement before it gets produced honestly. Inner arms probably need to be 6mm at least and I think I could refine the arm lock plate a bit with the thicker arms. I might see if I can work with a vendor to produce it at some point, but I don't have plans at the moment of making any more of this version.

Would you mind cutting one for me with spares or you could upload it to armattan for production if that serves you better.
My main purpose of this would be bonkers flying with style - less cinematic with gopro. That's where my 7inch quad comes into play.
But still, if I wanted to, with your design to do both - bonkers as well as cinematic with gopro.
Just shoot me a pm for further details ;)

Thanks! Yeah man, the two extra motors on yaw really give it a ton more authority. Pretty fun! Still need to dial in the tune a bit more and get used to how it handles, but I'm pleased!

Pretty good! I just updated the description with the maiden flight video. Handles differently than a quad for sure, still getting used to it.

Thanks! I've been using it on most of my frames lately, and I'm super happy with how it's turned out. There's actual a 1mm carbon fiber plate on the back the completely covers the back screen. The integrated strap makes it super easy to take on and off as well.

I actually designed arms for the front that turn it into a deadcat style quad, but haven't cut them yet. It's cool to actually have aframe designed for a toilet tank style battery as well, rather just slapped on a normal design haha.

Mix it up, I also like to think outside the box, we need better materials than carbon plate , to make the best of design,
The tortional rigidity of avaliable (to me ) materials allways stoped me from this aproach or similar , please update when flown , i neeeed to know

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
