Lumenier QAV-SKITZO

Things have taken off rather quickly and this is now my second build. I wanted to do a 5" this go around simply because it seems 5" is the most relevant route today. I've had a lot of fun with micros, but every enthusiast should probably have a 5" in their arsenal

My motivation is pretty simple. I want to build an outstanding quad that is both aesthetically appealing and capable. Each piece will be selected after careful research and review. The end product should be a quality freestyle (yet still very quick) setup packed with huge potential and geared toward the mid budget crowd. (but still far less than comparable BNF options)

The Components

Flip32 OmnibusF4 Pro Corner- This piece was really the reason for the build. Being brand new, I couldn't find any reviews on it at the time of purchase, but one look at the design and thought that went into this sealed the deal. Pad placement looks very convenient, and the immediate eye catcher is of course the gyro, which is now encased and isolated. There's other great features worth noting, so feel free to check out the specs in the parts section link below. (update) Unfortunately, after living with this flight controller for a bit, I can't say i could recommend it. The ribbon connector on the gyro is very fragile and has already proven to be a weak link. I foresee quite a few repairs in the future and may end up replacing the board all together after some time. Too bad.
Lumenier QAV Skitzo frame- This was originally a hard sell for me. With so many $20 frames on the market, I had a lot to think about. After all, Realacc makes a clone of this frame, so was there really enough to justify the $90 price tag on the Skitzo? Being that this is my first 5" build, I wanted it to be special, so I took the risk and I am very happy I did. The quality of this frame is unbelievable! With chamfered edges and thick replaceable arms, this frame features some very thoughtful design work. At 215mm and 100g (with the pelican decals I chose), it's not big and clunky either. All in all, I'm impressed and can't wait to start assembly.
EMax 30A Bullet ESC-Lately, I've been reading up on newly released products and how they stack up against the "hot" items of last year, and all directions point to the bullet series from EMax. They are running DShot 600 out of the box but are configurable to the other Oneshot setups in BLHeli. At 3.9g., these things are also small...like tiny small. Eventually, I'd like to give the Spedix 30As a shot, but for now, I can see these being a "go to" option for sure.
Hyperlite V2 2205 2300kv- Based on everything, I've read, these may be the secret star of the show. The design is based on the 2 year old ZMX models and even after all that time, these are still being produced and sold. In addition to proven performance, these have been improved further by adapting a naked bottom design dropping weight by a gram to a reported 26g (actually 23g with wire cut to size). By shear luck alone, they are also black and purple in appearance, which incorporate well with the theme of the quad. Did I mention they cost $12.99 a piece? Can't beat that! I am hoping this is a match made in heaven.
Wolfwhoop 5823L 200mw VTX-This actually wasn't my first choice, but after some QC issues with a Boldclash F07 and frying an underwhelming Eachine VTX03, I figured, at under, $10.00, I could give this little VTX a shot. The downside to this VTX may be in its ability to shed heat, but a heat sink should clear some of that up. Additionally, these require the use of an RP-SMA antenna, so be sure to order the correct part.

Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The gyro connection is very fragile and it's functions as a PDB are limited.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
