So I can actually tell about these motors now! I've been testing the Lumenier PoPo quick-swap system on this setup. So far it has worked really well. It's taken a few direct hits and stayed in the air. Works well, makes life easier and hasn't had any problems for me yet. My last few videos have been with this setup. Also this is testing my new frame design, which is a standalone version of the Crush, with 3d printed camera mounts from Brain3D.
It's also worth noting I've had horrible trouble with this flight controller. As far as I can tell, neither SmartPort or VTX control works via the hardware serial ports, though S.Bus works fine both inverted and un-inverted. I spent hours over several days trying to get it to work with no avail. I suspect there is something damaged in the MCU, as I was able to trace the pins correctly to the chip. Either that or it is some software bug. If anyone has gotten smartport or vtx control to work on this board, I'd be curious to hear about it. I'm hoping it's a freak thing, but I probably won't be buying this FC again.
UPDATE: After the issues with the DYS F4Pro v2, I pulled it and replaced it with the Bardwell F4. All the issues are gone, and everything works as intended with no other changes, so it was definitely a bad FC.
Are those arms 5mm? This is the freestyle I've been waiting to see built!
Its finally up! check it out here: https://www.heli-nation.com/our-brands/mqtb-1
wondering if you will be selling this frame? also looking at the frame can the arms be mounted on top of the bottom plate to help raise the motors up and keep the CG lower instead of being so top heavy?
Yep, if you have a taller camera and still want the CG low it was designed specifically to be able to swap the arms to the top. Got a couple buddies who've built it up that way. The CG is designed for the battery to be mounted about 22mm above the motor base with props around 15mm off the arm. After a ton of testing that CG seems to be dead on for freestyle with this mass distribution. You can maintain that with 30mm standoffs and the arms on top of the bottom plate or with 20mm standoffs and arms below the plate. Works out to about an 8mm difference on this frame, but you can't get standoffs at 28mm :D As far as the battery straps, I got those in with the AMAXInno motors, but there are a similar straps from a bunch of manufacturers. I've seen them from RJX at wholesale pricing if you buy volume.
As far as selling the frame, I've only been making small batches for local pilots so far. It seems there is a good deal of interest though, so I'm exploring reselling options with some US vendors. Still working out the details.
Good news! The frame is available now here: https://www.heli-nation.com/our-brands/mqtb-1
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

lmk when this frame comes out
also lmk what motors these are that can carry a battery and gopro with 20amp escs!
Let me know about that frame availability too!
I'm just selling to local pilots right now, but thinking about putting it up in one of the major retailers. We'll see. Don't want to rush it, but if there is enough interest I'll probably make it more widely available.
As far as the motors and ESCs, you'd be surprised what 20A ESCs can handle :D I'm running 20A ESCs on my Hypetrains with Gemfan 5152, and Lumenier Gatebreaker props. Full battery drain in under 90 seconds if I push it, and the ESCs come down cold. This particular setup is the PoPo 2206 2450kv motors (MX2206 core, with the quick swap shaft). I could probably get away with almost any setup I have on these 20A ESCs without issues, as long as I stick to 4S, even the high Kv motors on lighter props. Remember the Amp rating is sustained current, not burst current. That means technically they're rated for 80A for as long as I can hold it there. They're burst rated to 30A for 10 seconds, which means I'd have to hold 120A for over 10 seconds before I exceeded the rating. My battery can't come close to that, so it's really not an issue no matter what setup I run. The only possibility of killing them is extremely high instantaneous spikes that could damage the FETs, like large stator size motors on heavy props when extremely rapid changes in RPM are requested.
really looking forward to the release of the frame lmk when its coming out..
Should have some news on distribution at the end of next week :D Keep your eyes peeled!
Finally got everything together, and the frsme is out now! You cannpick one up here: https://www.heli-nation.com/our-brands/mqtb-1
